Greetings from the Friends of Avonmore!

Dear Parents/ Carers/ Teachers,

Happy New Year! What better time of year to introduce ourselves as the new team heading up the Friends of Avonmore – Avonmore school’s Parent Teacher Association AND to ask you for your support!

The main objectives of the Friends of Avonmore are to:

1) Create a community at the school for the children and their Parents/ Carers

2) Raise funds for the extra things the school might want to do (like school trips/ plants for the garden)

3) Provide a forum for Parents/Carers & Teachers to have constructive and meaningful discussions

We have plans to hold two events each term:

1)  An event for the adults only
2)  An event during the school day for adults and the children to attend together

(This term for example, we are looking at an ‘Avonmore Explores Traditional Dance’ evening (date to be advised) and a tea party on 12th April to tie in with the Royal Wedding celebrations and the School Council’s fundraising Crazy Hair Day.)

In order to enable the best communication to happen, and to involve as many of you as possible, we need your help!

We are looking for TWO (2) Parent/ Carer Representatives for each class to help contribute ideas and time and to help spread the word amongst parents. As a Class Representative, you would need to attend one (1) meeting a month with the Friends of Avonmore team to discuss and arrange events; then communicate those discussions to the other parents in your class and collect any feedback.

We intend to hold our first Friends of Avonmore meeting with Class Reps on Thursday 27 January at 9am. If you are interested in being involved then please contact either of us. We will be around each day of the week commencing 17 January at drop off and pick up times for informal chats.

We have a Friends of Avonmore noticeboard in the playground which has photos of us and how to make contact with us should you miss us at 9am or 3.30pm.  We look forward to chatting with you over the coming weeks and really hope that some of you will feel able to volunteer for the role of Class Rep.

Best wishes,

Melina Paesler                         Melanie Carlebach
